Entry Open as Finn Gold Cup returns to Cascais for the third time

For the third time in its long history the Finn Gold Cup will return this year to the iconic venue of Cascais, in Portugal. Entry has officially opened with the Notice of Race published on the event website.

The 2025 Finn Gold Cup will be held from 30 August to 6 September, and is incorporated with the Jorg Bruder Finn Silver Cup, which for the first time ever is being held for U29 sailors.

The event is being hosted by the Clube Naval de Cascais.

Cascais holds a special place in the hearts of Finn sailors, as it was here, back in 1970, that the biggest Finn Gold Cup ever was held, with 180 starters on one line. It was also a notable event because the Brazilian legend, Jorg Bruder, the first Finn sailor to win three titles, won his first world title.

Thirty-seven years later, in 2007, the Finn Gold Cup returned to Cascais as part of the ISAF Sailing World Championships, which produced one of the most epic days of Finn sailing ever recorded. The 2007 Finn Gold Cup was won by Rafa Trujillo, from Spain.

The 2025 Finn Gold Cup will come at the end of a long season for the class with the Open Europeans in Naples in April, with already nearly 90 entries, and the Finn World Masters in Medemblik, The Netherlands, with 260 entries already.

For many it will also mark the beginning of the 2026 season, with many planning to ship boats after the event to the 2026 Finn World Masters and Finn Gold Cup, in Brisbane, Australia. This double event is scheduled for February 2026.

The event website for the 2025 Finn Gold Cup is here: https://finnclass.org/event-page/2025-finn-gold-cup and the entry form can be accessed directly here: https://regatas.cncascais.com/en/default/toa/race/text/2025-finn-gold-cup-en

The Finn Class has an exciting season ahead, with a new strategy for growth and development including some U29 training camps being organised and two instructional webinars in the coming weeks. All details can be found on the class website at: www.finnclass.org.

  • Southern California Finn Schedule 2025

    Southern California Finn Schedule 2025

Southern California Finn Fleet Calendar 2025

Happy New Year.  First our next opportunity to race is this coming weekend at SDYC (January 18/19).  Please register ASAP.

We don’t have anyone registered as of yet but I know of three that were planning on racing at least one of the two days.  I will help coordinate if we change it to Sunday only.

Here is the link to register: https://sailing.sdyc.org/machform/view.php?id=839452

Next.  I have worked with Robert K, Rolland, AJ, Lee and Mike E to put together a calendar for 2025 and try and get events to every club.  This is a little bit of a departure from the past were most events were focused on SDYC.  The hope is that we build a stronger Finn presence in So. California.

However, it also means that we are counting on everyone doing a little bit of traveling.  The larger the fleet the more attention it attracts and more new sailors we can bring into the fold.

So print out the schedule and stick on your fridge (or your electronic calendar).  (Please note that we may move the PCCs to ABYC to help promote the NAS – If that happens the CA State Championship will be at SDYC on the dates in September)

I am excited about the Finns this year and looking forward to racing and seeing everyone.

Thanks again to Robert, AJ, Rolland, Lee and Mike E for the help in organizing the calendar.

Let me know if you have any questions or if I can be of any assistance.

    Best,
    James Buley

2025 Finn US National Regatta at Key Biscayne, Florida

The 2025 US Finn Championship regatta is coming up.  To date – we have 19 registered entries.  To make this type of regatta viable, we need to encourage more participation from the local and national Finn community.  There is still time to register.  Every participant counts in making the major US Championship regatta a success.  Will you be there for the fun and the sunsets after a day of racing?  Key Biscayne is a wonderful location with amazing views of Miami and Key Biscayne Island.  Sail right out of the club and enjoy the breeze and comradery of the Finn Class!  See you there!
